Evoland App Reviews
You could beat the game in less then four hours, I should have read reviews about this game before buying it because I found it a missed opertunity. The plot is boring and needs a lot of work, the ending is literaly someone telling you humans destoyed it’s family and then you destroy it as well. The concept of this game is great but it needed a lot of work. I think you should really do your research on this game before buying it, I didn’t like it and I think it was a missed opportunity.
Family Friendly. Reliable developer, [we own many of their games]. Not so easy as it appears. Waited a loooong time for this one to go on sale and very happy with the gameplay, graphics and amusing humor. Will buy “2”; but not at full price.
Wonderful
Thank you for making this game. I Had a lot of fun. Make others!
This game is a lot of fun. I’m stuck in The Ruins part where you get the 2nd part of the amulet because The Undead King is too strong. He hit me through a wall. But, it’s still fun. I like playing it.
Upgrading aspects of the game by getting treasures is fun. The play control and camera is awful. Trying to dodge fireballs and enemies with a bad (non-adjustable) camera angle is just plain frustrating, when you can’t tell depth. If you’re going to make a game in homage to old ones, then follow suit and at least give a view point where you can see what’s going on. Great idea, but over-rated and not even close to being worth $9.99. Maybe $2 and it’d be a fair deal.
It’s a delightful and challenging game and I was at the last boss ready to complete the game - and my ship is currently stuck above a village. Help! Please let me get some closure in this beautiful little world!
For fans of 90’s style RPGs this may be an interesting deconstruction of the genre, but what it lacks is the whole point why RPG’s have ultimately garnered a special place for gamers. It is an interesting concept to basically upgrade the game visually while you are playing through it. But when have the visual and audio aspects of an RPG ever been the most important elements which cause for people to conect with it? I can go back and play Chrono Trigger, or Final Fantasy, or The Legend of Zelda today and still enjoy them not just because of nostalgia alone, but because they are genuinely great games, with intriguing stories and inventive play styles. This game essentially just gives you a poorly redone spattering of these games while quipping on tropes that exist within them. The Game Play mechanics don’t live up to the games that it is imitating. And it’s story, yes it it purposefully poking fun at tropes in many old RPG’s, but that doesn’t mean that this game should just completely write off the opportunity to make it’s own story. Yes most, RPG’s, even the best one’s follow a generic, linear plot line and feature many reoccuring elements; it’s funny to poke fun of those, but they exist for a reason and the best RPG’s find ways to build on that plot structure. I would have been much happier if the game would have pointed out that many RPGs can be broken down to key points, but then taken more effort to “evolve” the story as it progressed. The game as a whole is very short and can be completed in one sitting, but I am in some ways glad that it is so short because I really am not sure if I could have continued playing for much longer. RPG’s are highly dependent on rewarding the player for their effort, and overall there is very little reward given through the game. There are only two playable characters, the main character never gains any new abilities, the girl/mage can only do TWO spells. But even more frustrating is that the reward system is not continuous throughout the game. You will be playing one section which requires you to play a FF type game where you gain XP and level up. But then the next section will switch to a Legend of Zelda type part where your previous work is completely worthless. I would feel as though a lot of this would be forgivable if it wasn’t as expensive. It is a very interesting game and deserves to be tried out, but when I consider that I can also get many classic FF games, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana and many others in the App Store for about the same price, it makes it hard to justify the cost of this game. I’m interested to see what they do in their sequel, because I feel as though there is a lot of potential for a game like this if they can make it worthwhile and rewarding to the player.
Awesome Game
its like a mix of Zelda and Final Fantasy from NES to PSX , cant stop playing :)
I liked this game a lot. It showed how games have changed over time, which was fun. It gave me about 3-4 hours of play time, I will admit that I didn’t collect everything though. I just wish the story was longer!
It took the best features from all of the games of our childhood and mashed them into one great game! It could be longer. Ran through the first sit-down. But perhaps one of the best games on the app store in a while. You dont have to pay real money for items (thank god) and brings back the memorys of the past.
I’m in the 40 and over crowd and not a video gamer per se, but played games growing up in the 80’s and dwindled off in the early 90’s. I had minor surgery with doc’s orders to nothing for a day or two,and the wife was out of town on buisiness, so this caught my attention This game is well thought out by the developers and brought back the nostalgic game playing experience before games got overly complicated. I Goolgle this game after playing it a little and found that it’s actually been out there for a few years and it eventually made it’s way to the Mac platform. Good job!
If you loved playing any of the Final Fantasy games, or the Legend of Zelda games, this game is for you! SOO much fun! Please make others you wondeful people!
Without blatantly ripping off previous games, Evoland, as the title implies, pays homage to RPG’s that paved the way, including Atari classics, Final Fantasy 2 to 7, Diablo, Super Mario 64 and a few others. Its challenging enough to keep you addicted but easy enough to keep it fun and lightweight. Well work $9.99 :)
Fun game, but I’m not a good gamer, so this one takes me a while. I had to UTube a guide for the different levels which has helped a lot. I LOVED the old Zelda games, and this one is very similar. I don’t understand why it starts off so pixilated or the need to do so. But it doesn’t take long to earn a clearer screen. I’m stuck in the Noria Mines and will probably be there a long time because I don’t have bombs yet. I noticed the other reviewer said it was a “quick” game, but not in my case. It’s worth the 10 bucks, as I didn’t want to get heavily involved in bigger mor expensive story-line/role playing games.
Love this game!!! If you grew up in the 80’s and 90’s playing rpg, you will love this game. It is amazing! A “spoof” in the best way possible. Currency is “glis”— instead of gils. There is a cid. there are more you will recognize but I don’t want to spoil anything. I really like that the treasure chests often reveal the next evolution in graphic or sound as video games have deveolped. It is so nastoligic and reminded me of the awe I experienced all those years ago when these updates came out. Love this game!!
